The course aims to raise the awareness of delegates competence in the installation and maintenance of electrical equipment in potentially explosive atmospheres.

To include:

  • Training and assessment to allow delegates to meet National Competence Standards.
  • A 'simulated' working environment in which realistic training and assessment can take place.
  •  A means whereby delegates can achieve nationally recognised certification to 'Industry' standards.
  • A means where employers can satisfy their obligation to have 'competence certificate' personnel.

The CompEx course covers 5 days of which 3 days are taken up by teaching split roughly 50/50 between practical and theory.

There is also a 60 question on-line exam which is multi choice.

The final 2 days are taken up by practical assessment of electrical Ex installation and electrical Ex Inspection, and IS installation and IS inspection.

Competence certificates will be issued and worded to indicate successfully completed issues.

EX03 - Preparation & Installation of EEx 'ia' and 'ib' Systems

EX04 - Inspection & Maintenance of EEx ia and 'ib' Systems


What you need to bring

Please bring with you some means of photographic identification together with your National Insurance Number on the first day (i.e. passport, driving license, company ID cards, etc), plus original electrical qualifications. It is also mandatory for PPE to be worn in the workshop on the 4th and 5th day of the course.


Entry Requirements

This course is JTL Approved and is conducted in accordance with their training standards. A JTL approved certificate will be awarded on successful completion of the examination.

ATTENTION We MUST receive copy certificates to confirm all previous electrical qualifications obtained by the delegate. Delegates who have no electrical qualifications will only be issued with a site specific certificate only. Pre-Requisite Because of the practical nature of this course delegates should be fully conversant with the make up of "Ex" certified glands; using steel wire armoured and multi core screened cables. The continuity and insulation resistance testing of such cables is also required.  Arrival Additional Info.
